UofL Fish Collection

The University of Louisville (UofL) holds natural history collections that appear to be maintained up through the 1990s. However, due to shifts in funding priorities and faculty interests, the collections have been neglected for many years. I am working with Dr. Matt Kolmann and several UofL students to rehabilitate the Ichthyology (Fish) collection and make the collection a usable teaching tool for organismal biology.

Leading an effort to restore a neglected collection is a challenging and rewarding task that requires both passion and expertise. This process involves identifying any missing or damaged specimens, documenting each species and the specimens' condition, and creating an action plan for restoration.

Our endeavor has began to breathe new life into UofL's fish collection. This historic collection is an invaluable resource for researchers and educators. By preserving these specimens, scientists can gain a better understanding of the diversity and complexity of aquatic systems and protect the world's biodiversity for future generations.
